Affordable 55+ Communities in West Palm Beach

As the golden years approach, many home buyers intent on downsizing find themselves at a crossroads, embarking on a new chapter of their life's journey. For some, finding a new living environment involves putting a premium on tranquility, social engagement, and a robust, amenity-rich lifestyle. But for others, affordability is paramount to making the most of this important next chapter, and choosing a home, community, or neighborhood that’s well within a strict budget is priority number one. If the latter is more your speed, featured below are several of West Palm Beach’s most affordable, yet desirable, 55 and over communities active adult home buyers should consider.

Built between 2000 and 2006, Baywinds is a bit of a hidden gem when it comes to active adult communities in West Palm Beach. Inside the community are 11 small lakes and ponds, allowing many Baywinds homes to feature a tranquil, waterfront setting that  certainly provides ample peace and quiet from your back patio. Tennis courts, a pleasant community swimming pool, and a clubhouse with a game room, library, and lounge space round out the amenities here, and with many single-family homes offering under 2,000 square feet of living space, Baywinds also won’t break the bank either.

Cypress Lakes

Situated on the west side of West Palm Beach and just off North Military Trail, Cypress Lakes is a larger, 900+ home 55 and over community that not only includes a wide-range of affordable homes but also an 18-hole golf course, swimming pool, tennis courts, and a clubhouse with a fitness center and ample social spaces. Affordability and this level of lifestyle amenities can be a rare combination, especially in West Palm Beach, but homes in Cypress Lakes often start on the low to mid-$300,000s. A gated entrance and a scenic community lake also enhance appeal and desirability, but keep in mind homes that hit the market in Cypress Lakes rarely sit for long. Act accordingly.

Century Village

Conveniently located off Okeechobee Boulevard just east of the turnpike, Century Village remains one of West Palm Beach’s most sought-after 55+ developments. Easy access to local shopping centers, restaurants, and countless other community amenities is certainly a highlight, but for many home buyers it’s the affordability and simplicity of low-maintenance condo living that puts Century Village over the top. Believe it or not, condos here still start under $200,000, and along with functional layouts and nicely appointed living spaces, there’s also a long list of community lifestyle amenities that include a tennis and shuffleboard center, one of the largest fitness centers of any 55+ community in town, multiple swimming pools, a billiards room, and even a community medical center with an on-site pharmacy.

Golden Lakes Village

Centrally located Golden Lakes Village is perhaps most known for its wealth of amenities, which includes everything from six community swimming pools to multiple clubhouses, tennis courts, and more than enough lounges and entertainment spaces for residents to socialize. But one top of that, the condos and attached villas at Golden Lakes Village also present home buyers with a low-maintenance, affordable, and attractive option that’s perfect for any active adult looking for the right laid-back South Florida setting. Despite their age, many units in the community have been updated and remodeled, and starting prices are sometimes as low as the mid to upper $100,000s.

Arbours of The Palm Beaches

Reasonably priced townhomes are what you’ll find at Arbours of The Palm Beaches, ideal for active adult home buyers seeking both affordability and also plenty of living space to feel comfortable. Consisting of just 100 residences, Arbours certainly isn’t one of West Palm Beach’s larger 55 and over communities, but to many residents, that’s what also makes it appealing. Amenities here are relatively basic and really only include tennis courts and a swimming pool, but this of course also contributes to lower HOA dues and ultimately the community's overall affordability as well.
